utah business
taffscott asked:

Any opinions from those who have dealt with this company? I signed a contract yesterday with them to install a liner and new shower walls. The contract is for almost five thousand dollars. I put down 2500. The contract allows for a three business day “buyers right to cancel.” I’m having some serious buyers remorse at this point since I gave them 2500. down. Can’t find them listed anywhere with BBB. They advertise heavily in the Utah area so I’m sure they are legit, it just seems after the fact that this a lot of money for what is essentially a bath liner and new shower walls.

hell, you could’ve had an entire bath remodel for $5k!!! For $5,000 dollars, I”LL come up there from Texas, install a new tub, and re-tile the surround!!! You didn’t shop around, did you? Gut feelings are usually right!!! If you’re having doubts, cancel that contract, call 3 or 4 OTHER contractors and look at ALL of your options, not just some cheap plastic liner to cover up the crappy stuff you have now. good luck.

I live in FL and am a remodeling contractor who has never registered with the BBB because they are an organization who are a waste of time and money. If you felt comfortable enough with this company to give them $2500 then you are probably just having buyers remorse. If the sales person didn’t give you a referral list, call their office tomorrow and ask them to fax you a list of 20 or so clients for you to call and find out what their experiences were. CALL THEM and ask questions. Most people won’t mind you calling them. If they are happy they will tell you and if they aren’t they will tell you every detail. If the Bath Co. is hesitant about giving you a referral list this should throw up red flags and you may want to consider cancelling your contract, depending on exactly what happens during your call. For the money you are spending, is there a reason you aren’t just replacing the tub? What ever you do don’t have it sprayed, it doesn’t hold up.

From what I’ve seen they are pricey for what they do, but from what I’ve seen they do do decent work. I would suggest shopping around with a few other contractors just because $5,000 was the bid for an entire bathroom remodel, but then again, the other bathroom’s bid was $19,000 for a complete remodel (this is from a different company) so I guess it just depends on what you choose to do, but I think you could get a new liner and shower walls that you could have it done for less.

The price range is about right, depending on the options you picked.

There are 3 main companies doing this type of remodel
    1) Luxury Bath
    2) Re-Bath
    3) Bath Fitter

Luxury Bath is the highest quality by a long shot. It also has a product called microban. Microban is a antimicrobial product that actually kills mold and mildew. It also comes with the best warranty.

Re-Bath would be my second choice. The reason being is they, like Luxury Bath have a one piece “dog leg” (The area on the wall in front off the tub. The dog leg goes from the top of the tub rail to the floor.)

The reason I would not recommend Bath fitter is because of the dog leg. This is the area that is most prone to leaking and they piece it together here.

As far as other options there is

    1) tearing it out and starting over
    2) Ceramic tile
    3) re-glazing

With tearing it out you will be forced to use a fiberglass tub, which is very porous making it very difficult to clean. (for those that are reading this, thinking how nice your fiberglass tub is, go in there and rub your fingers over it. It may look o.k. but it will be greasy, that’s because the porous material is literally ******* the soap scum in. Fiberglass surrounds are also known for cracking and being “spongy” when you stand in them.

Ceramic tile is definitely attractive, but unfortunately the grout is the weak point, after all its 80% sand, and sand ***** in the water making it a perfect surface for mold and mildew. Grout also needs maintenance once a month, but before you do the maintenance, you need to clean it with a toothbrush.

re-glazing is when they paint the tub. This is more of a band-aid if your trying to sell the home, but don’t care how it will look in 6 months to 1 year. It also doesn’t address the walls or fixtures.
