Utah requires colleges to allow Concealed Carry. Could this be this why they’ve never had a school massacre?

“It’s not that I run around scared all day long, but if something happens to me, I do want to be prepared,” said the 24-year-old business major
in 2004 the Legislature passed a law expressly saying the university is covered by a state law that allows concealed weapons on state property. The university challenged the law, but the Utah Supreme Court upheld it last year.

This is the sickest thing I ever heard.!
Could be. I carry concealed here in Texas no matter where I go. I feel safer.
So lets just say one day at a Utah college a gunman starts shooting. And all the good kids pull out their guns and a showdown and the OK corral starts. Pretty soon the police show up to put a stop to all of the shooting. How do the police know who the gunman is????
Good plan though. Lets go back to the 1870s and do things the way they did then.
You can’t assume causality.
Many states don’t allow concealed carry and have not had a school massacre.
Mormonism also holds that using violence against others is a mortal sin which imperils your participation in the hereafter. God will judge such sinners and he can’t be fooled.
You bet. And to the first answerer, the sickest thing I’ve ever heard is to disarm the populace. The first thing ****** did was to take away the guns, and the second thing he did was to march 8 million of them to slaughter. Wake up, listen up and grow up.
It definitely makes a gun slinger think before he walks into a room knowing everyone else is to be likely carrying too. Here is a link to Kennesaw Georgia who has a MANDATORY gun law and it’s huge success.
Who the heck (besides Mormons) wants to go to school in Utah anyway?
In Oklahoma, where we have 3 major universities, we have never had a massacre either.
Concealed carry would allow the perp to conceal as well…someone hell bent on a mass murder isn’t concerned if the “victims” are carrying a piece. They have to figure they’re going to get gunned down by the cops if they don’t shoot themselves anyway, right?
It’s just luck. There are plenty of schools in states that don’t have carry laws which have also not had shootings.
Yes.
It is also why the skiing is so good in Utah.
We’ve had our share of mass shootings here in Texas.During the tower shooting in Austin, armed civilians returned fire and pinned the shooter down, which limited more causalities. In the Luby’s shooting, shooter had a free fire zone until police made it to the scene. After that we passed our right to carry law.No more mass shootings since.Go figure. And yes,I carry a weapon, never leave home without it.
An armed society is a polite society.
No, I don’t think so. Why would someone planning to kill as many people as possible and then be shot by the police or shoot themselves care whether people were armed? I don’t think their motivation for doing this would be affected one bit by concealed carry laws. I’m not against the laws, just don’t see how they could make an unreasonable person suddenly be reasonable. If anything, crazies would just graduate to ******* bombs like they do in the Middle East where EVERYONE carries a rifle.
Actually the first time in Utah that law was passed was in 1995.
Since then there have been these school shootings:
Taylorsville, Utah 5/14/96. 1 student killed by suicide, 1 school bus driver wounded.
Davis County, Utah 2/?/98. Students held at gunpoint 4 hours, 1 student wounded.
Salt Lake City, Utah 10/12/01. 1 student killed by *******.
Taylorsville, Utah 11/7/01. 1 student killed by *******.
True – Almost All Suicides. And none since 2004.
But the reason they didn’t become “Massacres” is not because the gun law was passed but because the person was going to commit *******.
In these cases the individual felt that ******* was their only escape from the Repressive Strict Society that they are brought up in.
They most likely could not confront anyone about their opinions or views for Fear of retribution. Their only way of stopping it was *******. They were not out to kill a group of people they felt were the cause of their suffering.. As probably Nearly Everyone was the cause.
Their feeling of sheer hopelessness against an Entire Society is what drove them to ******* instead of Massacre.
