This has hit very close to home for me. My father was killed 8/24/79 in a mine 10 - 15 miles from this one in the news. He was the foreman of his crew (there were four men and they were all green horns) and they sent them into an area of the mine that they shouldn't have been in to roof bolt and pull pillars. 4 men died and 1 survived. Afterward, they tried to say it was my dad's fault because I guess it's easier to blame a dead man than take the blame yourself. My mom was two months pregnant with me and my sisters were 7 and 3 1/2. I am so proud my dad was a coal miner and I am so proud of all the miners and rescue workers. Every miner knows the potential risks. I know we can't control nature and we can't eliminate all injuries, fatalities and disasters but our society should continue to find safer mining practices. These men deserve it. I also thank God for all the brave men like them in the world and pray for all the families, fellow miners and rescuers (heroes in my opinion), and these communities. I hope that the mine will remember the families who lost loved ones by providing financial assistance, college funds, grief counseling, etc. I know we weren't.

I've focused my prayers on the family members since I first learned about the collapse. Obviously, as a Christian I would rejoice if they're still alive too. But I really didn't pray hard for that, to be honest.

I also think that the liberal media covers all such events in a typically hateful manner.

Like you, my prayers and thoughts are with those miners, their families and those who love them.

May God grant them the peace of Christ Jesus as they endure this tragedy.

How many mine accidents is America going to suffer through before we make the industry safe for its workers?

This is heart wrenching. Especially since we should have learned our lesson by now.

It is a heartbreaking situation. I too live in an area where coal mining is a big business. They get paid good and it convinces the young crowd to go that way for the money. . .but your life is on the line every single day. I feel so bad for all of the families that are involved in this tragedy. . .I can't imagine it being my dad, my husband or my son in that mine. : (

I feel so sorry for them. Not to mention the rescuers that have died trying to save another human being.

My prayers are with those familes in their time of need.

i think it's sad, and that they're dead, and that the people who died rescuing them are heroes....and that a-hole that owns the mine needs to be shot.
